TDP candidate KE Prabhakar on Friday sworn in MLC of Kurnool district. Independent candidates Jayaprakash Reddy and Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy staunch supporter Pulyala Nagireddy have withdrawn their nominations for the seat.

Since KE Prabhakar is only candidate left in the fray, the Returning Officer and Joint Collector Prasanna Venkatesh announced that Prabhakar was unanimously declared as the winner. Prabhakar is the brother of Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishnamurthy.

TDP candidate Silpa Mohan Reddy emerged victorious in the MLC election with a thin margin of 62 votes against YSRCP candidate Gauru Venkat Reddy on May 17, 2017.
