FIFA president announces Russia 2018 the best World Cup ever

FIFA president, Gianni Infantino was full of praise for Russia for its hosting this World cup and said, “I had for long said that this would be the best World Cup and now after living this celebration for a month, I can say with more conviction that this is the best World Cup.

We should thank Russia: the Russian Government, President Vladimir Putin, the LOC, the Russian Football Union. And of course the volunteers, who are the smile and the heart of this World Cup.

This World Cup has changed Russia and football is now part of the country’s DNA. It has also changed the perception of the world about Russia. Around a million people have come to Russia and everyone has discovered a wonderful and welcoming country.”

He also reiterated that this cup was dominated by the European teams while South American giants like Brazil and Argentina lost early. There was a greater need for more African and Asian teams to participate in the next World cups.

There has been speculation that 48 teams will be selected in the next World cup instead of 32. This will only be decided later, the president said.

The next World cup will be in Qatar in 2022.
