We are talking about a Prime Minister who is always visiting foreign countries, signing important deals with them(mostly business deals), who remains silent on crucial events happening in his own country(earning him the title, “Maun Modi”),but one who has the time to send his best wishes to IPL final teams. This is shown to millions of viewers getting ready to watch the match after settling in front of their television sets. It is free publicity, after all.

How much of this is pushing the Modi/ BJP agenda?

Is there a line that can be maintained between politics and entertainment? That line which was studiously maintained by independent artists, including film artists and sportsmen especially the favoured cricket stars in India no longer exists. A Om Puri who thinks that art must be kept away from politics is no longer alive.

Now a stage has come where the corporate control of sports is complete- Indian Premier League is a shining example. And the Corporates are so close to our ruling class, financing them for elections and so on that some amount of quid pro quo must exist and our Prime Minister must put in his greetings ahead of the final match between Sun Risers and Chennai Super Kings. Advertisement has no holds for Mr Modi , who has done it for Pay TM and Jio, if we remember.
