Delhi citizens are finally uniting to protest against the government’s decision to fell nearly 14,99 trees in its plan of creating new colonies. The AAP government has already blamed the L-G and centre in this decision. Many environmental organisations have also decided to work together against the felling of trees which are a lifeline for the already choking capital. They include Greenpeace, Say Hello to Green Foundation, Toxic Link, SAFE and CHETNA.
3,000 trees already cut in Delhi illegally
The Public Accounts Committee of Delhi assembly, during a visit to NBCC’s redevelopment of three housing colonies in south Delhi on Friday, found that around 3,000 trees were felled in these areas without making compensatory plantations.
It has to be seen how these protests gain momentum and stop this tragedy from happening. It had succeeded in Bangalore, so it must in Delhi too. Meanwhile the Prime Minister of the country has, as usual remained mum about the issue.
