The Catholic country Ireland still has very strict laws on abortion. On Friday, 25.5.2018 it has finally decided to hold a landmark referendum on this issue and once and for all decide whether the strict laws against abortion should remain or be abolished. Participating in this voting will be the 3.5 million citizens of this country where religion still holds a central place.

Result of voting will be announced on Saturday
The result of the voting will be announced on Saturday from the Dublin castle. It is expected to be a hung verdict, with many voters remaining undecided about the issue.
At present the law is that anyone having abortion could face upto 14 years in jail, causing numerous women to travel to neighbouring England , where abortion is legal.
