2 BJP ministers, Chaudhary Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga who had defended the accused in the brutal Kathua rape and murder were compelled to hand over their resignations after the anger against the incident threatened to boil over and hit the reputation of the ruling BJP at the centre.

PM Modi finally breaks silence
Since the widespread outrage after the arrests on April 9th, the PM who had remained silent , finally was forced to speak yesterday, April 13th and say that justice will be done in the Kathua case and also in Unnao case.

Irrefutable forensic evidence
On 17 January 2018 the dead body of 8-year old Asifa Bano was found in Rasana village, Kathua in J & K. The postmortem was conducted by a team of doctors at the District Hospital on the same day. The post mortem also revealed the presence of Clonazepam in the body of the dead girl and investigations revealed that she was held (from the day she went missing on 10th January till 17th, her body was found ), in a local temple, belonging to one of the accused. The forensic examination stated that Bano had been raped multiple times by different men, and that she had been strangled to death, as well as hit in the head with a heavy stone.

The police listed eight individuals who were arrested and charged over the crime, including four police officers including Deepak Khajuria, who was assigned to investigate the case and two other police officers of attempting to destroy evidence. Sanji Ram, a 60-year-old retired government officer, allegedly planned the crime with the help of police officers Surender Verma, Anand Dutta, Tilak Raj and Mr Khajuria. Mr Ram’s son, Vishal, his nephew, a juvenile, and his friend, Parvesh Kumar, are also accused in the rape and murder. The chargesheet against the seven adults accused of the crime was filed on 9 April.
The arrests of the 8 individuals, all Hindus led to widespread protests by right-wing Hindu groups. One of these protest rallies was attended by the 2 BJP ministers who addressed them in support of the rape-accused.
