Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and till recently the partner of Nitish Kumar-led government in Bihar was today sentenced by a special CBI court for 3years and 6 months in jail along with a fine of 10 lakhs. The fodder scam was the second conviction for the 69 year-old leader who has already served a jail term for the first case.

His son, Tejaswini Yadav promised to appeal against the judgement in the Patna High court. The CBI Chief Shivpal Singh sentenced Lalu Prasad Yadav for 3 and a half years, thus making the accused not eligible for bail. Lalu Yadav was first convicted in a fodder scam case on September 30, 2013, and was awarded five years’ imprisonment on October 3 that year, but he served only for a few months in jail.

Lalu’s tweet

Calling his conviction an act of revenge by the ruling BJP party which he has criticised in no uncertain terms, the RJD veteran tweeted on hearing his sentence: “Rather than practising BJP’s Simple Rule – “Follow us or We will Fix you”. I will die happily fixing myself for Social justice, harmony & equality.”
