The deadly attack on a Sufi mosque in Sinai Peninsula, Egypt, during the crowded Friday prayers left 305 dead and hundreds injured. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. But it is strongly suspected that the Islamic state maybe responsible for it.

The al-Rawda mosque in the town of Bir al-Abed was bombed and fleeing worshippers were then gunned down. Even ambulances were fired upon. This is also this is the first time that worshippers inside a mosque have been targeted by militants in North Sinai.

Three days of state mourning

The unprecedented violence has led to shock and condemnation the world over. The Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi has vowed to respond with “the utmost force.” Thirty children are also among those killed in the violence. Three days of national mourning has been declared in Egypt.
