The national capital woke up to thousands of students, teachers protesting against ABVP violence in Ramjas college last week. The calls of “azaadi” again reverberated, this time demanding freedom from violence by the ABVP students. It has been alleged by the students that many girl-students were threatened with rape by the “goondas” of the ABVP.

Delhi university against “Goondagardi”march

The march started from Khalsa college to the Arts faculty of Ramjas college. It uniquely consisted of students from various colleges and universities in Delhi like the Miranda House, Ambedkar university, Jawaharlal Nehru university, Jamia Millia and some more, along with many teachers. One of the main demands was to file multiple FIRs against the ABVP “goons” for the several instances of violence as opposed to the police’s insistence of filing a single FIR. Students also carried copies of the preamble of the constitution , in their march, reminding people of the basic rights promised for citizens.

It was also joined by political leaders like Sitaram Yechury and D.Raja of the CPI and Swaraj India founder Yogendra Yadav who addressed the protesters and said that the protest is not about Right or Left but what is right and wrong. Student leader, Kanhaiya Kumar also participated in the march.

The Tiranga rally had been taken out by the ABVP students on Monday. The ABVP students also addressed a press conference, in which they blamed the Left students for last week’s violence.
