Port development or Real estate business?
AP CM Chandrababu Naidu and TDP leaders have been continuously boasting that they are developing a deep water port and an industrial corridor at Machilipatnam which will help the entire state.
Few months back, the State government has decided to acquire 1.05 lakh acres from farmers by way of the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) for development of the port. But it backtracked on the land pooling after facing stiff opposition from the farmers.
Now, the Government is reportedly toying with the idea of going ahead with the land pooling. All the previous governments have decided that 3 to 5 thousands acres of land will be enough for port. Even when Chandrababu was in Opposition, he said the port can be developed easily in 14,80 acres.
Most of the ports across the world were developed in less than 5 thousand acres. But for the first time, the TDP government is planning to acquire 36,000 acres of land in the name of port and other industrial developments.
This will become the second biggest land pooling scheme in the state after the one implemented in Amaravati. This is likely to kick up a controversy. Is there any ‘real-estate’ motive behind this massive land pooling decision?
