Bapatla Agricultural College (BAC), which has been enjoying a reputation of a premier academic institution for the last seven decades, turned into a hot bed of a stern face-off between the students and the varsity administration. A strike has been going on there since two weeks over the death of an M.Sc (Ag) student, Surya Rao, on 26th of September. The varsity administrators allege that it was a suicide under pressure of studies while the students accuse a particular professor humiliated Rao in public which led to the tragic end. Although the varsity administrators say that they are their best to solve the confrontation by counselling the irate students, recent developments suggest otherwise. The Police have been called into the premises of the BAC by the varsity authorities on Thursday to evacuate the striking students from a tent which was pitched in the morning hours. Students charge that “threatening letters” were sent to their parents frightening them of dire consequences unless their wards call of the ongoing strike with immediate effect. Student activists have been saying that they would not relent unless and until firm action is taken against the egotistical professors. Vice-Chancellor of the ANGRAU Dr. A. Padmaraju and Associate Dean of BAC Dr. PRK Prasad claim that they have been trying hard to address every concern of the students to their utmost satisfaction. The mood of both the parties still appear to be stubborn if not adamant.
